Media Highlights Burns Charest’s Reopened Lawsuit Against American Airlines Over Teen’s Death

The Texas Lawbook: Litigation Roundup and Aviation A2Z featured Burns Charest LLP attorneys Darren Nicholson and Hannah Crowe, who successfully revived a wrongful death lawsuit against American Airlines regarding the 2022 in-flight death of 14-year-old Kevin Greenidge.

The legal team argued that the airline violated FAA regulations due to a faulty automated external defibrillator (AED) and inadequate crew training. Following a Fifth Circuit decision, the case is moving toward a jury trial, with evidence suggesting the onboard AED failed to function, according to Nicholson.

“As the appellate court noted, the doctor and nurse attending to Kevin during the emergency, together with other witnesses, agreed that no shock occurred,” said Mr. Nicholson.

“We are pleased that Kevin’s case will now move forward, nearly four years after his death,” said Ms. Crowe.
