Godwin Bowman’s Sidney Scheinberg Weighs in on Complex Legal Battles in Chasen Empire Collapse

Sidney Scheinberg, who chairs the Bankruptcy and Creditors Rights section at Godwin Bowman PC, was interviewed by JCK Online and The Baltimore Sun on the ongoing case involving Brandon Chasen’s empire, which has unraveled into a complex web of financial scrutiny and legal battles.  

The fallout has extended beyond Chasen himself, ensnaring major financial and real estate players in secondary litigation. Lenders have filed lawsuits against appraisal firms, accusing them of significantly inflating property values that led to substantial losses when the developer’s collateral proved inadequate.  

“A lot of people still don’t do it,” says Sidney Scheinberg, an attorney with Dallas-based Godwin Bowman, who represents several jewelry companies involved in the Saks bankruptcy. “If you’re giving goods on consignment, have a written agreement and, for God’s sake, get a UCC on file.”
