Dean Omar Branham Shirley LLP (DOBS) provided comments that were featured in the Wisconsin Law Journal after the state’s Supreme Court issued a 5-2 ruling holding Pabst Brewing Co. liable for the asbestos exposure of Gerald Lorbiecki, a contracted steamfitter who developed and subsequently died of mesothelioma. The decision significantly expands Wisconsin’s “safe-place” statute by establishing that property owners owe a non-delegable duty to maintain a safe work environment for all personnel on their premises, explicitly including independent contractors.
