The Texas Lawbook reported on a Harris County lawsuit filed by Blizzard Greenberg on behalf of a Houston woman who says she was sexually assaulted inside a Dollar Tree store. The lawsuit alleges the incident is part of a broader nationwide pattern in which women at multiple Dollar Tree locations have reported being assaulted while shopping.
The firm represents four women in different states, including Texas, Florida, California and Colorado, who allege similar assaults occurred in Dollar Tree stores. The lawsuit contends that chronic understaffing and inadequate security created conditions that allowed these incidents to occur and persist. A Harris County judge recently granted a motion to compel discovery that could shed light on what the company knew about prior reports and how it responded.
“I would say it’s a uniquely vile sex crime, and my clients are uniquely injured here because it’s happening to them in a public space,” attorney Anna Greenberg told The Texas Lawbook. “They are customers at a store, minding their own business and often are approached from behind and don’t know what’s happening to them until it’s too late.” The case is currently set for a February jury trial.
