A feature in Texas Lawyer details the Sidley Austin case led by Penny Reid and Christina Koenig to combat bigotry in the military.
Jerrold Grannis always knew his father, Richard F. Grannis, had served in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s, but his father rarely discussed his military service. After Richard passed away in 2020, the family was shocked to learn their request for full military honors at his burial was denied. It was revealed that Richard had received an “other than honorable” discharge in 1966 due to allegations of “homosexual conduct.”
“It was striking that the Grannis family simply wanted to honor their father’s legacy by righting this injustice against him and honoring him with a full military burial,” said Ms. Reid.
