Chris Schwegmann, managing partner of Lynn Pinker Hurst & Schwegmann, was featured in Law.com’s October 21 article, “Grilled by a Bot: Litigators Are Turning to AI for Trial Prep,” which explores how trial lawyers are integrating artificial intelligence into courtroom strategy and preparation.
In the article, Schwegmann describes how the firm uses Harvey, a closed legal AI system built on ChatGPT and integrated with Claude, to streamline trial preparation and strengthen courtroom performance. To prepare for court, Schwegmann uses Harvey to assume the role of opposing counsel, generating counterarguments and anticipating the other side’s strategy.
“If it comes up with 10 points, I will have anticipated seven of them,” Schwegmann told Law.com. “But I’m always surprised by two or three things that reveal some kind of hole or issue with my case.”
Schwegmann emphasized that AI serves as “a brainstorming tool, a sparring partner, an idea generator” rather than a substitute for human legal judgment.
