Law360 recently covered a significant win for Jackson Walker LLP in a California federal court decision that ended the long-running lawsuit over Nirvana’s iconic Nevermind album cover.
U.S. District Judge Fernando Olguin granted summary judgment to Nirvana members Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, along with Courtney Love (on behalf of the late Kurt Cobain’s estate) and photographer Kirk Weddle, rejecting claims that the 1991 album cover constituted child pornography.
Mr. Weddle’s counsel, Joshua Romero of Jackson Walker LLP, praised the ruling, stating, “We are pleased that the Court recognized the artistic value of Mr. Weddle’s world-renowned work on Nirvana’s Nevermind album and dismissed this baseless lawsuit.”
The ruling brings to a close a four-year legal battle surrounding one of the most recognizable album covers in music history.
