Zehl & Associates recently spoke with the Houston Chronicle regarding a lawsuit filed on behalf of a Houston man who was seriously injured in an explosion at a downtown Houston high-rise that was under construction.
The firm’s client, Michael Marquez, was one of six workers injured when an explosion rocked the 17-story building slated to become a Holiday Inn Express/Staybridge Suites. The lawsuit filed in Harris County alleges that the property owner, Neway Hospitality, and contractor E.E. Reed Construction failed to implement proper safety measures that could have prevented the incident.
Justin Warner, an attorney with Zehl & Associates, who represents Mr. Marquez, emphasized the importance of accountability in preventing future tragedies.
“Something like this, ultimately, it shouldn’t happen,” Warner said. “It doesn’t happen unless someone does something wrong, whether they’re negligent or cutting corners or trying to move quicker than they should.”
