Hicks Thomas Partner Courtney Ervin Named to 2024 Houston Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business List

Ms. Ervin recognized as an ‘outstanding business leader in law’

HOUSTON – Hicks Thomas is pleased to announce that partner Courtney Ervin has been named by the Houston Business Journal as a 2024 Women Who Mean Business honoree.

Established in 2016, the award recognizes women leaders who have demonstrated excellence in their careers and community. According to the Houston Business Journal, “This prestigious award is given to the unstoppable women who go above and beyond in the business and community sectors.”

Named an “Outstanding Business Leader in Law,” Ms. Ervin is a top business generator for the firm. She is regularly retained to serve as lead counsel in high-stakes commercial litigation for clients representing numerous industries, including oil and gas, energy and insurance coverage.

Ms. Ervin’s work in and outside of the courtroom has earned her the respect of her peers and garnered several professional awards. She has been recognized by Chambers USA, one of the most prestigious and sought-after honors in the legal profession, The Best Lawyers in America, Texas Super Lawyers, Benchmark Litigation and Lawdragon. In 2023, she was named a Premiere Women in Law honoree by the Houston Association of Women Attorneys.

Ms. Ervin also spends time giving back to the legal community. She is a member of the Houston Bar Association and has held several leadership positions. She has also been a member of HBA’s Gender Fairness and Professionalism committees, has served on the Host Committee of the University of Houston Law Center Gala and is a Texas Bar Foundation fellow and Houston Bar Foundation fellow, serving on the new membership committees for both.

“I am so honored to receive this incredible award,” said Ms. Ervin. “I feel very fortunate to be able to do work that I love, and I feel part of my responsibility as a leader is to give back the community that has given me so much. To be recognized for that is really something special.”

The Houston Business Journal selects honorees based on criteria that include career achievement, contribution to company and city success, community involvement and leadership.

“We are so proud and excited for Courtney,” said Hicks Thomas partner John B. Thomas. “When HBJ described honorees as ‘unstoppable women who go above and beyond,’ it really is describing Courtney. From the work she does for our clients to her work giving back to the legal community, Courtney really does it all. This honor is well-deserved.”
