Dallas Morning News “Making Dallas” Column Features Retired U.S. District Judge Barbara Lynn

Retired U.S. District Judge Barbara M.G. Lynn, the first woman to serve as chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, is featured in The Dallas Morning News “Making Dallas” series reflecting on her quarter-century on the federal bench and what comes next.

In the interview, Lynn discusses some of the most challenging matters she oversaw — including public corruption cases tied to Dallas City Hall and a terrorism-related sentencing stemming from an attempted bombing plot. She also shares what she won’t miss about the job, noting the personal challenges that come with sentencing decisions.

After retiring in August 2025, Lynn joined Lynn Pinker Hurst & Schwegmann LLP as a partner. She tells the News her work will center on mediation/arbitration, trial strategy consulting, and internal corporate and government investigations, including participation in a Harvard mediation training program.
